hey are the official versions sold on amazon translated well ? I was wondering if anyone could vouch for them. Thanks
The only weird thing to me is that they translate the sound effects... which in general is fine, but it covers up small portions of the pictures just to say "DMDMDMDMDMDM" (with the picture of troops obviously marching). The text is small and I'm nitpicking, in general I have no problem with them.
The other thing fan translations do that is missing from the Dark Horse translation is the notes at the end of the chapter. Evil_Genius is good about putting culture specific puns or colloquialisms that do not translate directly into English in their notes.jpg.
Overall, to support Berserk I do buy the Dark Horse versions along with the japanese tankoban by Jet Comics. They appear to be uncensored - they come shrink wrapped which is why a lot of bookstores won't stock them. I should add that I have not scoured them to see what may be different.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Well, my thought on these thigns are as follows.
1. I support Berserk by always buying every volume that comes out as soon as possible.
2. I support Berserk by chilling on sites such as theblackswordsman.com and talking with other fans so I can better explain and have things explained.
3. I like it when the culture specific puns or colloqualisms are explained but whenever they are explained I still dont understand it because it is so culture specific so I don't even care, mainly too because I dont like comedy as much as I like drama and action. I can do without puck or isidro and their comic relief.
4. I agree that only certain places sell berserk because only the worthy deserve to see it. It is like the egg of the King, the only ones who have seen Berserk are those who are worthy or perhaps it was destiny that made them worthy enough to have Berserk brought to them. I know when I first encountered Berserk i felt this strange repelling and absorbing aura and I felt like it was somethign I had to see. I just was supposed to see it. And any one who has seen it and betrays Berserk's greatness is like Wyald in Berserk, an unworthy apostle.

Seriously though, #3 is a good point. I always like to see those, but really... it basically doesn't matter since I don't understand them either.
hey ya, sorry if it may bug someone out, but just wondering, when do you guys think Guts'll make a reappearance? I mean, sure, having Griffith as the main actor's cool once in a while but dunno, I want this arc to finish soon so that we can see the awesome-pwn-ness that is Guts-sama 'n co. lol
Hell I hope it's soon, I'm a gatsu fan and immediately I was dissapointed by this chapter, although after going back and admiring just some of the panes it was a good chpt.
That was cool when they united to cut down one.
I am a Gatsu fan myself, too and I assume that as soon as Ganishka dies or this battle with Griffith and Ganishka is over, I feel that Guts will come back to us. It would ruin the battle if it were cut up into slices just so we could see Guts.
Not that I mind griffith's spot light being taken by The badass swordsman. ; ]
Man I'll be so 'Gutted' if something happens to miura before this series ends ....
The slow rate of releases are a torture
we should sign a pettition making sure Miura is fully medicated and cared for up until berserk is finished. Then that way he will have his medical support ready at all times.
lol he should make a "manga will" where he draws a rough draft of an ending or makes a statement about the ending that would be released upon his untimely demise. I think we can agree though that Guts needs to brutally murder Griffith, fix Caska and live happily ever after.
Well spoken Berserker. I agree that miura should have some sort of "Berserk Will" explaining how the end will unfold and how Guts brutalizes, degrades, humiliates, assasinates, ashames, powns, woops, crushs, destroys, breaks, abuses, slices, rip asunders, that preatty boy twat known as, Grifffith.

well we do like griffith, it's just that y'kno, after that 'fun' event of the eclipse plus Guts' past and the fact that Guts IS the main character of the main characterS, well you kno', we gotta love Guts more than we do Griffith, don't we? For me, Griffith's only 'lovable' in the past, pre-Guts leaving the band of the hawk... What about y'all?

pple's reaction to sonia's speech... again reminds us of how easy it is for a small number of sweet speakers to manipulate the absolutely majority of humans in this world. (check chapter 8 of volume 12) it's frightening how easily pple throughout history were convinced to give up their own lives for leaders who appears to be so caring but in reality give damn about nothing other than their own ambitions.

I agree witha all the above statments that have said pre-Griffith before the rape was likable, but pre-Griffith before I found out he slept with an old hag man for money, was even better.
Guts has always been cool even after knowing about his past. it just made me think he deserved victory more than ever. GUTS ALL THE WAY!

On another note, griffith sleeps with hag men and likes the wang as well as a good raping every now and then. Thus, I can say griffith is one of the biggest douche bags in manga history I know.
Also, I have a good feeling ganishka is gonna get seriousl shit on once he meets griffith because evenn with his size hes up against the hawk.
Well I think, that Griffith was great character when he was still human. Even when he slept with old guy for money it was somewhat impresive manifestation (even if kind of sick) of his dedication to his ultimate goal. After he changet into demon, there si not much to say about him beeng likeable...
Last year I roomed next to a guy who was never seen alot and on he name tag on his door it read "Griffith". I had no idea Griffith was a real name, but I did come to find that the real life Griffith, or at least one of them, was sort of a douche bag, too.
ahaha, so uh, do y'all think it's safe to say that 'all' griffiths are 'douche bags'? just messin', i wouldn't go that far...
but really, berserk's griffith is what should be called as the incarnation of the ultimate villain or is it the ultimate villain incarnate? oh whatever...
but yes, let's get back onto the story, sonia, yes, y do you think sonia would lend her support to griffith knowing his demon army is full of real 'demons'? ya think she really means it in her speech? or perhaps because of her past?
