The wraparound jacket band on the 35th volume of Kentarou Miura’s Berserk fantasy manga is announcing this month that a new anime project is launching. More information will be provided in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine and the affiliated Young Animal Web site.
The manga has been running in Young Animal since 1989. It’s either bots, an error by the administrator, a bug in the software (which is my most likely guess) or an attack.
The error is not easy to fix. Mul won’t be able to do it. So. We are probably down for a while unless it magically repairs itself.
My off the bat suggestions are to roll back, update the software (MySQL or RC), reduce allowable bot activity on the site (search engine crawlers and etc not spam bots), set the max user connection value to a higher value …. I dunno if any of that will even help honestly.
I’ll research it a little bit I guess.

Seems like a reboot (discards all that had happened in the previous anime and starts from 0 with fresh new ideas) ’cause at the end of the first trailer you can see the moment when Guts and Griffith clashed swords for the third time, and in the second trailer depicted the moment when Zodd attacked the Band of the Hawk and fleed; all this already happened in the previous anime yet this new anime will also include that wich makes us believe this is gonna be a reboot ( sinceit would be stupid to make a new anime and not add everything they left out from the manga in the previous one)

I really hope these are OVA’s and not a new tv series. I don’t think they could make a tv series and include all the detail (story/gory wise) that makes Berserk so special.

Its brand new as of last night in Japan. It’s comercial 4 out of 5. It re uses footage from all 3 of the previous commercials so far. But if you’d been following the flow of information at all you would have already known that commercial 4 was going to be recycled footage from the first 3.

I would like to think that all the recent breaks were because he needed to work on or be a consultant etc for the new anime. That’s what I’m sticking with. Once it starts, he’ll be able to devote more time to Berserk.

The February issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine is announcing on Saturday that the previously revealed Berserk project will begin with a theatrical film that will open in 2011. I say we set up a special fund, and then using the money we collect we send a couple of extremely hardcore Berserk fans to Japan to follow Miura around everywhere he goes (including public restrooms) with a huge banner that reads- “GET TO WORK! FINISH WHAT YOUR STARTED! WINNER NEVER QUIT, QUITTER NEVER WIN!…or else….”
If this doesn’t work, we should buy several hundreds of sets of his collected volumes, and send them to members of whatever Yakuza gangs they have in the city where Miura lives. If we get some Yakuza fans, they might find a way to pressure him to finish his work in an acceptable amount of time.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I have finally reached a point where I don’t care about new Berserk chapters coming out. I love Berserk, especially some of the older Arcs, but as it is right now- fuck it. I’m sick and tired of looking at these god damn pirates and those overgrown insects. I am in the process of re-reading Berserk once again. You know what one thing I find particularly interesting in the story? The fact that Guts is Griffith’s ONLY friend, especially after everything that happened. Remember how Griffith was saying that friendship is possible only among equals and Guts ended up fighting and leaving him because of it? Now Guts is the only man in the world who knows Griffith and refuses to submit to his charm and wants to kill him. At the same time, I wonder if Griffith is Guts’ best friend even after everything that happened? I know he hates him and all, but I’ve always played with the idea that the root of that hate might be caused not so much by Casca’s rape (she was Griffith’s girl way before Guts showed up) but because Griffith left him behind and betrayed him the same way that Gambino did and allowed him to be sacrificed with everyone else, thus renouncing, in a way, their friendship and putting Guts on the same level with everyone else after everything Guts had done for him. This is one of the reasons I’m still looking forward to the ending. I am dying to find out how Miura will resolve this conflict.
He’ll resolve it with his death. That is, Miura will die and we will never get a satisfying ending to the manga :-p That’s in line with the general darkness and pessimism of the series, IMO.
Ugh,don’t voice my inner fears… I have been following this series for so many years that the thought of it not being finished pisses me off so much that I myself feel like going Berserk. I do, however, hope that Miura will have the decency to at least leave a manuscript of some sorts that will show he it should have ended so that we can get the satisfaction of a closure and a different artist might be able to continue the series from where Miura dies.

Hello. Probably a stupid question but what are these ‘chapters’? Are they taken from the official manga comics that are to be released? I have upto vol.35 and was wondering what exactly these online chapters were? If I want to continue with the story, do I now have to do it solely on the internet? Thanks.
Every single ‘episode’ of Beserk manga is considered a chapter. There are typically about 10 chapters per volume. The author, Miura, comes out with maybe on average about 15 chapters a year, so unless you want to buy only 1 or 2 volumes a year, I suggest you follow the manga online.
There are many places to get it. The links above show some. Here’s a page listing the volumes and the chapters within them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Berserk_chapters
The chapters not yet in a volume will get put into volumes when there are enough of them (about 10). Seems there are 8 chapters done now so you’ll probably have a while to wait until volume 36. Miura’s breaks can last 6 months

I’m not certain but I believe they both work. When I hear it said (in anime), it usually sounds like it’s drawn out with two vowels. Where as in real conversations it’s probably more terse.

I woke up today realizing that if it werent for all you guys i would of completely forgot about Berserk. I always loved Anime but i never bothered to read mangas (dont ask why, i was just ignorant to how good it was HAHA)
The ending in Berserk anime hit me so hard that i had to see more understand more too. Then after typing berserk like mad at my University in the computers in google i was led here, and realised, i was like 10 years late and shit. hahaha this was in 2008.
I was laughing like whoa what happenned. I was also happy thinking good it must be finished then, there must be a new series i aint heard about and it concludes all. Came here then I was told no it was just the one, and that like me everyone was amazed is still waiting most of you for ages before me and recommended me the manga with the warning that its also not fully complete but would heal the pain substantially after i find out that although the sacrifice was not a dream, Guts and Caska didnt die.
I was officially into manga then on.
I would like to thank you guys on the site because where i come from people arent very passionate about anime or manga especially deep ones like Berserk.

Anyone have any information on a subbed version of the movie yet? Idk how translation goes for Japanese movies since i usually can wait till for whenever they come out, but i need this movie O_O, are we going to have to wait for its dvd release in japan?

I suspect simple subs will be out a few days after a cam version is released. And I’ll be watching it whether there’re subs out or not! In fact, I bet it’ll be much more engrosing to totally focus on the visuals for the first watch.
Same. Ive read berserk so many times i dont need subs, but there isnt even a raw version or camera version yet D: ive been replaying the berserk ps2 game to get my fix for now.

The only other artist I’ve followed who died before completing his work is/was Robert Jordan. The new author has totally mangled the series, IMO. If Miura-san dies before completing it, even if he leaves numerous notes, I don’t think the rest of the series would be particularly satisfying.
Actually, what I would prefer would be a release of his notes so that we can see things in an unadulterated form, perhaps with quick sketches of the sequences rather than the epic works of art.
I think that would also be a good way that the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan should have gone. Perhaps with fan-fiction written based on the released notes and the best ones collected and wrapped together into book form. Kind of like a wiki. A pity there isn’t more art done this way.

Ok but wouldnt you say in your opinion, that what Miura is doing is slightly selfish per say? Not only to the fans but to himself also, why should he not finish hes great work? The world is a very volatile place right now, anything could happen.
Its not fair Khono-san, if someone else has to end it be that who it may, we will clearly find something unnatural about it, like all the mystery and guise will disappear and then, next thing you know final fight and berserk wins and griffith dies, you know that basic ending. With no explanation the demons disappear, and the world is a better place now. Even though it was way messed up before the demons had arrived, but they will just ignore it.
What do you think Khono-san? Is there light in the end of this tunnel?

I wouldn’t say Miura-san’s being selfish. It’s his art to do with as he’d like. Even after so many years of doing it, he still has our interest which is a very difficult thing to do. From what I can see, Miura-san does not just mash a bunch of hackneyed plot devices together to grind out as much material as he can.
If he could write, say, a chapter a week but doesn’t just because he’d rather masturbate with 95% of his time or something, then yeah, that would be kind of upsetting. But I’m not convinced that’s the way things are.
Based on the chapter he had removed from tankoban format way back when, I don’t think it will be a simple Guts vs Femto fight. The god of destiny, or whatever it is, will probably play a pivotal role.
If Miura-san dies and it gets passed on to a new author, really, we can have no idea what to expect. I suspect that they wuoldn’t quickly end it as you guess, though, because they’d probably want to string it out to cash in more from it. While most of us would hear funeral bells at news of Miura-san’s death, those people would proably only hear the *ching* *ching* of a cash register.

Its like me having a game in my house I dont have to lend it to a friend but I do lend it because his a good friend, so whatever I can do, is the least I can do. I agree yes they will hear ker ching and with that I believe a abrupt ending would come and Mass Marketing would ensue, and the fact that he is dead would be severely highlighted as a selling point, and hence forth bullshit fans will come and purchase, we will go under the bus and our views will become irrelevant. Pessimistic, but in this day and age, quality seems to be less important that Capitilsing Khono-San aha
