As you guys know Berserk Golden Age Arc I: Egg of the Supreme Ruler came out this week on Bluray and DVD. The Bluray package I received included a highlight CD produced by Shiro Sagisu. This CD offers 3 mixed tracks, two of them suites, but the last one was an acoustic version I didn’t hear on the films soundtrack. I uploaded the acoustic track, check out the video below.
This package also included an “explanatory booklet” which cracked me up at first, but includes some cool sketches and a psychological history of Guts! I went ahead and scanned that for everyone (see gallery below for full booklet) – maybe someone will be kind enough to translate the interesting parts.
I won’t talk about the movie just yet… everyone knows the story, but there’s no reason to spoil how things go in this condensed version. I don’t think most of you have had a chance to see it for yourself just yet, so we can revisit this topic soon. I am sure the fansubbers are hard at work. For those of you interested in getting this now, it is available on amazon.co.jp which does international shipping and is discounted through the end of the month.

Yes, I understand. I guess I couldn’t wait and watched the bluray raw, I will certainly watch again when the fansub surfaces, and undoubtedly again when Viz Media puts out their version this fall.

LOL, you can keep the raw file, and open it with vlc player, wait for subs, and just open the video with the subs. The subs will be probably be coming soon.

I can answer that question. It’s true! don’t get your hopes up too high cause i was totally disappointed but don’t get me wrong there’s some great scenes in the movie but….the movie felt very rush and they cut too many beautiful scenes that are in the manga and the tv series. There’s no character development and u will not fall in love with judeau, Rickert, Pippin or even Corkus. You won’t care about them and with Guts they didn’t develop his character much….you won’t feel Guts pain and anger like in the tv series and the manga.

Why would they tell the same part of the story multiple times whitout going much further than what we already saw?

The japanese bluray does NOT come with English subtitles. The good news is that Viz Media has already licensed it for North American release (assuming you’re in NA) and it should come out some time this fall.
Everything was rushed, the character were not develop and the new fans will not care for them. They will like only the battle scenes and it will not inspire people to read the manga or watch the old series. i still will be recommending the old series and the manga but not this movie.
The movie is short.. it should had been 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Sounds, like they were trying to re-commercialise the series yet save money. They could have just done or Re-Done the Anime in more depth. Instead of a movie, but I am no expert. Thanks for the insight guys. I suppose as a manga reader, these movies are a sign that Miura-Sama will continue working hard on the manga and release more frequently at some sort of consistency than none. haha.
When I read these two parts of what you guys wrote , it really got to me, like I felt a sting in my heart.
Why wouldnt they, whoever they are in the creative department, not brainstorm what you guys said?(Someone there is being paid for their ideas needs to get fired) I dont get it. Especially if its being released in Japan first, everyone there must already be more acquainted with the story than say us in the west per say.

Just watched it and it as good watch but the animation is pretty ugly at times, looks like something out of a game. Also the music is VERY lacking compared to the anime.

Did you know that chapter 328 and 329 were out on evil-genius? Just in case.
I downloaded the movie from Anime Take in .mkv format, playable on MPC… it’s not that large (just around 900MB), and it’s got subs on it. The video quality suffered a little though, with the large backdrop scenes pixelizing a bit. But overall the images are still very crisp.
And yes, I think the series is still better. If the movie animation was rendered for the series, then it would’ve been so much better. But I’d rather they keep the original character designs, or maybe have it just like the Millenium Falcon game.

As an aspiring filmmaker and a lover of Berserk i was so disappointed with the 2012 Berserk the Egg Of The King movie that i took the 1997 TV series and edited into a 2 hours and 35 minute movie (2012 movie is only 80 minutes). Yo, just wanted to find out when the English dubbed version is coming out (if it is coming out) read from a few places that the original English cast is coming back, and seeing as i have watched the series with the English dubs i would prefer to watch the movie with the same English dubs, any info would be greatly appreciated thanks!
