Review
It looks like Dark Horse has decided to speed things up with Berserk releases, this one just 6-7 weeks since Volume 15. Berserk fans in the U.S. have gotten slow releases from Dark Horse over the last few years, but hopefully things will turn around now (I haven’t looked at their schedule).
I especially liked this book for a few reasons. One reason is it has an excellent quote by Guts, “.. look at the darkness around me.”, once you’ve read that part you’ll know what I mean. Secondly, we can see the dark side of Guts continue to grow with “The Beast of Darkness”. Lastly, the action is intense and superbly drawn by Miura. Guts’ unquenchable thirst for revenge really shows here… I don’t want to give away too much for those that haven’t read it.
The following extreme Berserk elements appear in this volume:
- Guts kills hundreds of children
- Guts is fire-proof
- Skull Knight eats a behelit
- Guts is taken down by Farnese (!)
- Guts is captured by the “Holy Iron Chain Knights”
- Guts punches a guy and his eyes squirt out
Just finished 15 last night can’t wait to get this one. I really hope Darkhorse picks up the pace on the release dates, just takes way too long!

The children were in the form of those evil “elves”. They were the children from the village. Did I confuse my volumes when I wrote this? I know he killed tons of them.

This volume is extreme. Guts face when the antenna goes through his cheeks is just one of the most extreme ones ever.
I also love this story arc. I like it when Guts comes out of the lake and he’s gonna chop that moth girl in half even with the other girl laying over her. He gets so pissed off.
